Barbara wrote, "Dr. Hatcher mentioned that the contraceptive community is
beginning to
recognize that a certain percentage of moms on the low dose progesterone
pills DO have the reaction of a diminished milk supply. This is not the
COMMON response, but it does occur, and his next edition will contain this
observation and the warning that nursing moms should begin with a form of
low-dose hormone contraception that can be discontinued (like pills or patch
rather than injection) if the mother does have this reaction."

It is excellent news that recognition is finally being made that low dose
protesterone pills sometimes DO have a reaction of diminished milk
supply. I would dearly love to have a copy of something in print from a
respected source acknowledging this. I know it doesn't happen to all
mothers on the mini-pill, but it happens to sufficient numbers of my
clients that I would like to learn more about this - how and why it occurs
- specific dosages and specific progestins - so that we could refer these
mothers back to their OBs for perhaps a different mini-pill, or another
form of contraception. Thanks for letting us know about this Barbara.
