I think giving slings instead of gift bags is a great idea. Sure its sending a message about a certain style of parenting (attachment) but so are diaper bags (deattachment, product-oriented, "accessory" and fashion).
Even bottle feeding parents can use slings. Isn't the need for close physical contact for babies well established in the literature?
I soon found those big bags cumbersome and unnecessary. I've seen slings now, with a small pocket in the tail, to hold your wallet or small diaper.
Of course, you will never get them free from sling companies. You'd have to pay for them, at a volume discount at best.
