I agree with Linda Smith that infant unhappiness deserves investigation,
and with Lisa Jones that an infant who is chronically disorganized and
irritable needs to be evaluated.
It is a good thing to teach parents infant cues, encourage them to meet
their baby's needs, and teach them some basic soothing methods for when
baby is overstimulated. But I have found some reason (usually feeding
related, either over or underfeeding) every time I've been asked to see
a "colicky" baby. And addressing the feeding problem solved the colic,
very quickly.
