Dear Kathleen:
I just got back from a second home visit. Baby has not gained any
weight since yesterday. Mother started with a SNS, and I told her she had to
supplement.........she had given the baby only one bottle since my visit the
day before!
I think baby is getting only colostrum, which is keeping her stooling
once a day, but isn't supporting growth. This is the happiest starving baby
I have ever seen; she is rosy, alert, not crying much, and eager to go to
breast. She is being so loved by her parents, and getting something at
breast.
MD had prescribed Guiness Stout for mother to drink.
Mother still having bright red bleeding, with shreds and clots in it.
She says amount is less than yesterday.
I called MD, who plans ultrasound on Monday........in two days. I
guess the real problem is this mother needs medical care on the weekend.
warmly,
