Dear Lactnetters:
For future references should anyone in NYC want a ENT surgeon who is
completely comfortable with nursing children (my son could no longer be
considered a toddler at age 4) after tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy I can
recommend the ENT my son is seeing. He did not even bat an eyelash when I
explained my reasons for nursing my four year old and asked him point blank
about sucking on straws and sucking on the breast. His philosophy is to
change the routine as little as possible and did not feel that either of
those contributed to the post-surgery bleeding that sometimes occurs.
Moreover, I have talked to all the staff involved in his upcoming surgeon
and have found the same attitude.
Amazingly, this is at the same hospital that a friend had trouble with when
her 2-1/2 year old needed open heart surgery. She had one nurse look at
her and say "You're still letting him do THAT". Perhaps there are
different philosphies in different departments of this hospital.
