This mother has given me permission to post this problem. Healthy boy, born 2-
21-03, normal delivery. Baby steadfastly refuses to nurse on the left side.
Mom has tried side lying, football, cross cradle, dad holding baby, baby
really hungry, baby half asleep, skin to skin, in the bath, in short
everything I could think of. Mom had been pumping on the left and getting 4
ounces. The areaola on that side is somewhat larger but no real visual
difference in nipple. Mom has tried wearing breast shells to help shape the
nipple to see if that would make a difference. No go. Mom ended up with
mastitis on the left, fever 103 and round of Augmentin scripted by her OB.
Mastitis is better, but now can only pump 2 oz from the left. Now with
mastitis on right side and mom pumped that breast because too painful to nurse
and got almost 7 oz. On antibiotics again.
Okay, any words of wisdom for this mom.
Thanks in advance
