I once had a client who had such an overwhelming supply with her first baby that when she called me at about a week pp with her second baby, she was unwilling to continue nursing unless I could give her a way to diminish her supply right away. She used the one-sided feeding method and drank sage tea. Between the two, she was able to reduce her supply to a manageable amount.
Also, from personal experience, I can tell you that parsley (juiced or capsules) can dramatically reduce supply, but if mom is careful with the dosage, she should not lose her supply.
Personally, I would wake the baby to nurse, as I would not want a return of menses.
