We have been using Pure-lan for years in my institution, sparingly, of course, and always correcting the cause of the sore nipples first. Recently, my two partners returned from the CLC training put on by Elise Blair, and say that we should stop using lanolin completely. The rationale is that lanolin is not FDA approved, and we don't know what harm it cando. They also said that the Montgomery gland function is blocked by the use of lanolin. ALso, apparently JCAHO is cracking down on the use of non approved substances. Has anyone expereinced this in their hospital? I like having something to recommend for sore, cracked nipples, and really feel that the Pure-Lan works. My Medela rep feels that the lanolin is completely safe and knew nothing of this new information. I would greatly appreciate any information you could offer. I hope to meet lots of you Lactnetters in Jume at the big conference here in Amarillo!
Thanks, Tiffany Bateman, RNC,IBCLC
