There are currently no specific studies on Lexapro and breastfeeding.
It should be similar to Celexa (citalopram) in its breastfeeding profile.
Celexa appears in breast milk. Infants receive 0.7% to 5.9% of the
weight-adjusted maternal dose of Celexa.
Somnolence, weight loss, and decreased feeding have been reported with
Celexa.
If Lexapro is given, these side-effects should be monitored.
Why not use Celexa for which this information is documented or even better,
one of the more breastfeeding friendly SSRI's, if this is the first time a
SSRI is being prescribed? Why start with Lexapro in a breastfeeding
situation?
