Ruth says:
I see alot of grief in women about failed
breastfeeding experiences. This grief is often expressed in having
to
justify why the baby was given the bottle as soon as they find out
about my
interest in breastfeeding, lactation and bonding.

This is so true! So often when what I do comes up in conversation,
women will defend their choice to bottle feed or, more often,
describe the difficulties they had with breastfeeding even many
years ago. And this is when the conversation has not been about
breastfeeding at all. All it takes is a casual mention in passing,
often while discussing something totally unrelated, for a woman to
"let it all out". I remember one situation where a number of us in
a choir were sitting in an auditorium waiting for the sound crew to
get things set up. Of course, there were a number of small
conversations going on. On mention of my being an LC, a woman 3
rows back, who hadn't even been a participant in the current small
discussion, jumped in with all the reasons she didn't breastfeed.
There is a lot of repressed emotion in many women on this subject.

Winnie
