I do see that the RN may help a hospital-based LC feel she has more
credibility, but not all LC's (or other people helping breastfeeding
mothers) work in a hospital setting. Many of the mothers I work with have
given birth at home, with midwives. For many of these mothers, having an RN
would not be a plus. They appreciate my familiarity with home births and the
day-to-day care of the breastfeeding baby in the home environment -
something nurses may not be familiar with.
