Sort of a Hale synopsis. Levsin is hyoscyamine. AAP has not reviewed it's
use in breastfeeding mothers. It is an antispasmodic in the belladonna
family. Has in the past been given directly to infants for colic, although
it is no longer recommended for that use.
"Although no exact amounts are listed, hyoscyamine is known to be secreted
into breastmilk in trace amounts.(Wilson,J. Drugs in Breast Milk. NY:Adis
Press, 1981) Thus far, no untoward effects from breastfeeding while using
hyoscyamine have been found."
Hope this helps. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
