I have read every post in the archives with the words "tongue sucking" in
them. So, if your ideas are tried and true, I have already read them, and
they were my tried and true too. . .but not working this time.

Baby was born at home. Ideal birth. No trauma, easy delivery. Obviously no
meds. From birth to breast within seconds. . .and quite able to open wide
and latch. Unfortunately, baby seems to think his tongue needs to be sucked!
He sucks his tonge in his sleep. . .it is audible and visible. When he
first attaches to mom, he has his tongue down, but he won't cup the breast.
In a few sucks, he pulls his tongue back, sucks away on his tongue and gums
mom instead. When he sucks on mom's finger, she can feel what he is doing
and relates that is exactly what he does on her breast. He does not cup the
front of his tongue, but instead it is rather flat. It may be flat simply
because the back is bunched up and being sucked so hard that it cannot curl
around mom's finger or breast. This is 36 hrs postpartum. Mom is
uncomfortable to say the least, and baby is not going to get enough to eat at
this rate.

My suggestions. . .every thing that is posted in Jeanette Panchula, BSW,
LLLL, IBCLC, RN archived post listing steps she takes to encourage tongue
suckers. I was please to find I had already had mom try all her suggestions!
On the other hand, I could not find much else to written to try that I had
not already had mom try.

Is there any new secret trick to fix this?

Thanks,
