I remember discussing the 1989 study that Dr. Jay mentioned with Dr. Jack at
one time - he pointed out that although the women in the study SAID they did
not drink during pregnancy, he felt it was quite possible that women who
were "regular drinkers" in fact did drink during pregnancy but were
reluctant to admit it since the risks of alcohol during pregnancy are well
known. If that's so, the motor skills deficits seen may have been the result
of drinking during pregnancy rather than while breastfeeding.
