In absence of mastitis signs/symptoms I do not recommend antibiotic
treatment as a prophylaxis in a case like this. Like you said, fix the
latch, heal the nipple, continue to express the affected breast, and be
observant of mastitis signs. I recommend gentle soap and water cleansing and
applying an antibiotic ointment to the crack. One could also do moist wound
healing and some use lanolin. I find once the crack heals most moms resume
Bf easily.
