I think this has been brought up before, but in Australia, new mums are
given a bag containing samples of various products - nappy (diaper) creams,
baby lotions, shampoos etc. From memory it also includes things like
discount portrait photo vounchers, a sample of a mother/baby magazine and a
general baby-care book. There are actually 3 bags produced - one given to
women when they pre-book into hospital during pregnancy, one post-partum and
one at 6 mo (available from large department store with voucher in
post-partum bag)
I think, in fact, that these companies *pay* to have their samples/brochures
in the bags.
