I don't think many peds could do chart reviews if they wanted to, because
they don't have good data on who breastfeeds how much. If my ped relied
on the info I gave him, then he didn't have very accurate data. There are
two reasons for this: First, he asked questions that didn't mean anything
to me, like how often do you nurse? I said I nursed whenever the baby
was hungry. they needed a number, like every x hours. I couldn't answer
that, because I didn't look at a clock every time I nursed.
They also didn't really get any info on supplementing. I wasn't
supplementing
but no one really asked me that. I think it's because they assumed I was.

The other reason is that my pedi has no idea how long I nursed my kids.
At some
point they stopped asking if I was still nursing, and I didn't volunteer
the information.

To give fair credit to my pediatrician, I have a lot of respect for him,
and I think that over the years his attitudes about bf have changed due
at least in part to his openness to information from patients like me
who are exclusive nursers and long term nursers.

If my doc who is a bf supporter didn't get good data from me, a bf
advocate,
I imagine ther are many other docs out there who have even less reliable
data making a chart review useless.

I don't think this is about intelligence. In fact, in large part, I think
part of our problem is that we let intelligence get in the way of common
sense and instinct.
