In response to Anne Slaughter:
Yes, both The Medical Center and Doctors Hospital in Columbus, GA are still
giving special hospital logo gift bags to breastfeeding moms. At Doctors
Hospital, we give mom an insulated bag stuffed with a water bottle, ice pack
and lots of NON-formula company literature i.e.: our contact number, our
getting started breastfeeding book, a brochure on nutrition and breastfeeding
from our dietitians, a flier on our Nursing Moms Support Group, a brochure on
safe co-sleeping and information on anything special to that mom's situation
like working, jaundice, pumping, breast surgery. It has become very
popular..........now I would love to persuade the physician's offices to stop
offering information about the free diaper bags they will get in the
hospital. It makes it hard when a patient insists on receiving her "free
gift for breastfeeding mothers from the X formula company". They act as if
we are denying them something that is owed to them.
Education, education, education....
