This is anecdotal, but when our doctor was trying to convince me to get
a pertussis shot for my infant son (which we didn't do on schedule
because of massive, multiple food allergies--I have no interest in
heading off topic here), he told me that one winter he had to
hospitalize 28 babies in his practice for pertussis. I asked how many
of those happened to be breastfed.
"Uh, none."
And he had often bragged that he had 98% breastfeeding rates, so as it
turned out, practically every bottlefed baby in his practice had
pertussis bad enough to be hospitalized, and their breastfed
counterparts didn't.
