Hello,
as vice chair of Arbeitsgemeinschaft Freier Stillgruppen (AFS), I am
involved in the preparations for world breastfeeding week. I find this
year's theme, breastfeeding in a globalised world, quite challenging. It
is so complex and hard to break down to concrete examples that people
can do something about and that connect breastfeeding mothers in
different parts of the world. One useful example to me seems foods that
are produced in poor countries for the world market like, for example,
coffee. With the low prices on the world market, the workers and
peasants often don't make enough money for a living; it is only through
contracts with "fair-trade-organisations" (in Germany, the signet ist
"Transfair") that they get a stable income and can send their children
to school. So by buying "Transfair" products, a mother here can make a
direct difference to the life of a mother and baby there. But I only
have general information on this, no reports on how mothers live and
breastfeed under those conditions. I would greatly appreciate if someone
could send me or direct me to such reports to use in world breastfeeding
week.
Thanks in advance.
