"the benefits of breast milk for the prevention of mortality and morbidity
outweighs potential risks due to the trace levels of pollutants in breast
milk. And, the
risks of formula feeding (increased death and illness rates) are so
substantial that they outweigh the small risks of chemicals in breast
milk."

These sentences are saying similar things--except that the first holds
formula feeding as the norm. The only time there are "benefits" to
breastfeeding is when we perceive the health outcomes of formula feeding as
normal. In reality, breastfeeding is the foundation of normal health and
development. For more on this, see my article "The real breastfeeding issue
goes far beyond mere guilt" on the publications page of my website.

Still working in my own writing to convey the normalcy of breastfeeding
more effectively,

Cynthia
