Yes -- you are absolutely right, Catherine. The other thing is that parents
HAVE to insist on it. That's how other things get done.....take ear
piercing. The pediatrician can "not believe in ear piercing" but if enough
mothers insist on having it done, and begin taking their babies to another
type of practitioner that will do ear piercings, then eventually they will
capitulate -- particularly when they realize they are losing money from NOT
doing this procedure. (Insert any sort of procedure in the place of ear
piercing).

Instead of bowing to the physician that says, "I don't believe in clipping a
frenulum" (or better yet -- "I don't believe tongue tie exists") then the
parents need to thank him/her, go on their way and find someone that will
help them. Of course, that requires empowering the parents, and that's not
something that is readily done.

Sigh.

Jan -- in Wheaton -- wondering what on earth belief systems have to do with
tight frenulums, and extremely grateful that I work for a group of
pediatricians who recognize that a tight frenulum can and does interfere w/
breastfeeding, and who will treat it appropriately!
