We have a husband/wife Ped team here who are dead set against
breastfeeding. They used to just tell the mothers that "this breastfeeding
stuff is over rated. Formula is just as good. After all, we give our own
babies formula by choice."
practice and there were many complaints to the head of the clinic. So now
when any breastfed baby comes in with problems--small or large--the
solution is stool testing, with the usual outcome being to give Neocate for
a week to see if the "problem" is resolved. If it is, Mom is to face the
fact that her milk is not good for her baby. A suitable substitute will be
prescribed.

Fortunately I get a lot of calls from these moms. Unfortunately I don't get
all of them.

Sometimes this happens at a routine well-baby check up and mom has no
complaints about baby's digestive system.

So, stool testing is the latest "scientific" way to halt the increasing
breastfeeding rates.
