Question: My question is...has anyone seen Gentian Violet fail in a case of
nipple yeast?
Kathy, I recently had 2 patients that had very resistant yeast. Went through
about the same treatments you discussed with 3 courses of 2 weeks of
Diflucan, alternating 3 days of Gentian Violet with 3 days of Nystatin on
the nipples. (We had some problems with ulcers on the baby's tongue when
going longer with the GV so that's why I had them alternate.) It wasn't
however, until they started with the INTERNAL yeast treatment that they felt
better. They went on a yeast cleansing treatment from the health food store
along with the grapefruit seed extract. One mom stayed off all sweets until
one day she broke down and had an ice cream cone and the next day the yeast
flared up again. I just kept reassuring them that the yeast would have to be
starved out and they were on a mission to rid themselves of it. They are
both doing well now, both were able to continue breastfeeding. If you want
more on the yeast cleansing treatment email me privately. Mary Ann Krainz
