No one knows whether this is over-kill or not, but at least in Austin, our
milk bank screens out moms who have lived in Great Britain during the past
10 yrs (I think that's the time frame).  Just as blood banks won't accept
their blood, our milk bank follows that model for milk donations.  How
exactly mad cow disease is transmitted is still unfolding.  We know that
even high temp sterilization is inadequate to de-contaminate surgical
equipment that has been exposed.  Therefore, the milk banking pasteurization
process is deemed inadequate to protect against transfer.
