I bet this mother knows all too well that bf is very very beneficial. That
is why she 'feels like a bad mother' for not doing so. Why not suggest
feeding expressed milk? In my experience, many mothers who are 'grossed out'
by the notion of direct bf will go for pumping. Let her know that many
mothers choose this. While this may not be the very best thing for the baby,
it will enable the baby to recieve own mother's milk and it holds out the
possibility that the mother might at some point put baby to breast, in other
words, it protects the milk supply. Of course, a top quality pump would be
essential.
