Has anyone seen/done this? We apparently have a local visiting nurse
telling clients that she is an LC and suggesting to them, if they have sore
nipples or a baby not latching well that they try a bottle nipple over
theirs!!!!!! (with no follow up by her!) Took me and the local hospital LC
combined time of 29 days, huge commitment on the mothers part and weight
loss on the baby's part, to get the baby totally back to breast, but at
least we did. Now we have a new client that just got the same info from the
helpful visiting nurse. Does anyone know why she may be recommending this?
Has their been a recent article somewhere that mentions this as a perfectly
okay option? Are both the hospital LC and myself missing something? This
is being used as a first line of defense. The hospital LC was also accused
by her RN, IBCLC staffer of not being up-to-date on sheild use, so that is
why she called me. (I did share with her the JHL articles on rethinking and
use in premies. But I don't think that was the issue.)
Note: I'm not reffering to nipple shields, these are regular bottle nipples.
