Babies CAN be swaddled with their hads near their faces and free from the
blankets. I find this works VERY well with my NICU babies! They can learn to
comfort themselves and suck on their fingers and show appropriate feeding
cues, and if they occasionally pull and NG or OG tube out - then so what? It
can be placed back. Its more important for them to have the opportunity to
develop oral/hand motor skills and such than it is for the nurse to save 5
minutes of time by not having to replace a tube.
The babies seem to like it better
