Sometimes a baby's teeth enamel is weak because of a high fever in child's
infancy. Strep mutans just opens the door for decay and I don't really
think it matters after that what food is in baby's mouth :-( I'm sure mom's
milk had antibodies to strep mutans, however the exposure was great enough
to get past them. Having had 4 of 5 kids with lots of decay (in the days
before we knew what we know now), I think it is also genetic to a certain
extent. Their dad's family was known for not having great teeth. Of course
maybe it was just the strep being passed around :-( Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
