Hi all,

I am an IBCLC, FNP from Lansing MI who has been NOMAIL. Am becoming
dizzy searching on the archives for an answer to this question. DId Tom
Hale sometime post how to weaken Gentian Violet for use in a baby's
mouth? I cannot find it.

I am a grandma! Of course Emma has thrush, most of it cleared by use of
Nystatin but she still has some patches in her cheeks. Mom's nipples are
not sore beause baby is not latching on yet at 6 weeks (another story) .
So the PNP who is an LC and Pediatrician recomended Gentian violet TID
for 5 days. My job was to find it --found a 2% solution with 10%
alcohol. When i questioned the pharmacist and asked him did he not
remember burns in babies mouths from too strong of a solution, he said i
could mix it with water 50/50.

But alcohol in my grandbaby's mouth? Or any for any baby.

Caution to all of us who just recommend gentian violet.

For those of you who are not grandparents yet, it is great and I wish it
for all of you when the time is right!

Please advise>

Thanks
Cindy Church
