Why tell the mammogram center that she is still breastfeeding till after it's
done? I have had moms have the mammogram and I tell them to nurse the baby
or pump the breast well just prior to having the mammogram. She could wean
only from the breast with the lump. A mammogram isn't going to tell them what
the lump is anyway. The only way to know what it is, is to biopsy it.

Has she seen a surgeon? I have had three lumps removed, one so small they
had to do a wire guide for the surgeon to locate it and another while
breastfeeding a 10 month old. I leaked out the incision for three weeks, but
I continued nursing without missing a feeding till my son was24 months. If
she has been seen only by her OB, she needs to see a surgeon to get to the
bottom of this. My first two lumps they didn't even want a mammogram, but
tried needle aspiration. The lumps were solid and they surgically removed
them.

I suggest women who have lumps read Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book to help them
have an understanding of breast procedures and to help them to better
dialogue with their surgeons. I would waste no time finding out what this
lump is with a hx of breast cancer.
