Peg, where in Colorado were they? How long were they
here? How active were they while visiting? did they
have the child in daycare like at a ski resort?
People usually blame problems in Colorado on the
altitude but they forget the dryness. We have a very
arid climate- we evaporate more moisture than we get.
People lose a significant amount of fluids from their
eyes, nares, lungs and skin. Some people have
problems sleeping as well.
Leadville is high enough so that babies are small and
at-risk mothers often head down to the Front Range to
finish their pregnancy. Leadville is at 10,152 feet.
Remember, these women are *living* there. Vail is
around 8000 ft, Telluride around 9200- I personally
feel a big difference when I get over 10,000- 11,000
feet.
So no, I wouldn't blame the altitude. I would suggest
that our climate is harsh and you have to take care of
yourself here. I generally suggest that people start
increasing their iron and B complex before they visit
and that they carry a water bottle or hydration pack
and *use it*. You should be peeing often here and it
should be clear.
