Hello All,
I posted recently with a request for some info from WHO that would help
support the use of human banked donor milk as an option for term babies who
have a medical indication for supplementation. In light of recent research
which demonstrates the link between Type I diabetes and exposure to bovine
milk protein, I am concerned that we are undertaking unnecessary risk in
using formula to treat hypoglycemia and weight loss >10%, particularly for
infants of diabetic mothers. Now I am putting out a more general request
for info and discussion related to this. Our NICU began using banked milk
for premies about a year ago, but we have not gotten the go-ahead to use it
with term babies. Here are my questions:
* Does anyone working in a hospital setting have a protocol that calls
for having banked donor milk available as an option for term babies?
* Can you help me with citations which would support this practice?
* Can you share about how your process went from idea through
implementation?
Thanks in Advance from:
