I don't have to be a member of NAPNAP to maintain my NP certification, but
it is through NAPNAP local affiliate that I meet and network with other NPs.
This is an important part of my life so I don't feel like I'm all alone in
the world. The same goes for ILCA. I'm a member of local ILCA chapter and
get support there for local issues.
In NAPNAP chapter we charge higher dues for local membership if you aren't a
member of national. In ILCA chapter, you are a non-voting member if you
aren't a member of ILCA (I think - that may have changed.) In other words
we put a premium on being a non member of main organization.
I would encourage people to join their national/international organization.
Perhaps ILCA can consider what ANA does. If you are not working as a nurse
or unemployed, dues are half. I'm sure we can put our minds to finding a
good solution for all. (Workers and volunteers :-) Pat in SNJ
