It's a fair point.
The analogy (like most analogies) doesn't stand up too well to detailed
scrutiny. On a personal level, I'd only accept blood donation if there
was an reasonably high and imminent risk of me dying without the
donation. I wouldn't take a pint of donor blood every day to reduce my
chance of getting infections, diabetes and allergies in the future; but
I would feed my child well-screened, pasteurised donor milk to achieve
the same end. Unscreened donor milk? Nope. Everyone sets their own
level of risk; so long as they're well-informed and well-supported,
that's fine.
Ah, "well-informed and well-supported", wouldn't that be lovely if it
were the case the world over as regards breastfeeding?
