This could be a (very) long shot, but could it possibly be the ingestion of
E. Coli, such as via unsterilized blub suctions used during the birth in the
infants' mouths? I know, a long shot, but from reading this article, which
has nothing to do with neonates, albeit the mentioning of blood in stools of
adults

),  it seems to be one tangent to go on if none others pan out. The
possibilitly of oral contamination during/after the birth could be
considered, could it not? Please enlighten me if this seems unlikely. Other
than a dairy allergy, GI disease, or blood ingested from mom's cracked
nipples, I can offer no other ideas. I hope breastfeeding does not end up
being contraindicated...
