I love it! I know three mom's who assumed they would nurse and have no
problem. One didn't tell anyone she'd had a breast reduction until the
baby had lost 15% of his body weight. Went straight to formula and
bottles at that point. Ped was going *ballistic*.

2nd had a large weight loss as well. Mom ended up supplementing with
lact-aid about 8 oz per day. With baby number two, she ended up
supplementing 2 oz per day for the first six months. Both babies were
nursed for over two years.

3rd, well...didn't go so well either time. both FF from early on.
Tried the lactaid but "my breastmilk makes her colicky". The formula
did too.....she had two babies who screamed for the first five months.

Fun story. Adoptive mom who came here to Atlanta to be at the homebirth
of her baby. Water broke (three weeks early) and they hopped on a
plane from their home state. The hb mw called me to see if I could get
some breastmilk for this baby who was going to be nursed by adoptive mom.

I did.

Drove to the birth like a maniac - with breastmilk and a sleeping
toddler in my car. Got there 5 mins after the suprise breech birth.
adoptive mom had baby at her breast....we filled a dental syringe...baby
nursed like a champ.

Prior to the arrival of the baby, mom was pumping, taking herbs, doing
acupuncture. after we met, she started domperidone. Her milk came in
at 21 days post arrival. Baby never needed formula b/c of the donated
milk......they had so much that they bought a cooler, filled it with
ice, and brought it home with them.
