When I was working in NICU's it was common practice to check breastmilk
with another RN, much like checking blood. You were required to be at the
baby's bedside and check the name and MR# from the bottle of milk to the
baby's nameband. These policies were put in place in the 1990's. Just
wanted to throw that out there, that if there isn't such policy in this
particular NICU, perhaps it should be?
