I too have had this experience, but only once in 3 years.  After much workup
on baby and mom, thyroid negative etc, some fertility issues but nothing
major.   Just conceded that she didn't have good supply going great early on,
and now it is catching up to her.  Similar to what Jan stated...unless you
feed frequently early on, lay down prolactin receptors...man the factory I
say...there just isn't a back up when demand increases and autocrine control
takes over from endocrine.   I think she had a lazy, slow mediocore nurser on
a slight schedule up to this point.  Usually all the typical tricks didn't
help much.
