I've attended several of the AAP conferences representing IBLCE (they
usually have an exhibit promoting the IBCLC credential). I've been very
impressed with the caliber of the breastfeeding presentations. However, it
is hard not to view these events with some cynicism. The formula
manufacturers have massive (room sized) displays and give out freebies such
as CDs, plush toys, and all sorts of expensive hoopla. At one of the AAP
conf. a formula manufacturer created a drop-in day care center (very
attractive) so peds who were traveling with kids could have a safe place to
leave their kids to play during sessions. You have to hand it to these
companies. They are clever and cost is no object. They want to be your
best friend if you are a doctor.
