My guess is that when labor begins spontaneously, the baby
is "fully cooked" and ready to be born. When the doctor
looks at an ultrasound or some otherwise calculated due
date and induces labor, then there are more problems with
the near term babies.
Does anyone know about any research on this (preferably
not funded by the pitocin manufacturer)? How many near
term babies are there? How do they measure it? Which near
term babies tend to have the problems, the ones whose
births result from spontaneous labor or those who are
induced?
