Sara,
The problem I have here is the same as with so many other similar studies--we
are dealing with an overfed, undernourished population in much of the West.
The truth is that many, if not most of us in America (remember most of us
were AF) would likely benefit from use of probiotics. So, instead of asking
good questions, such as would women who were bf need probiotics or only those
who were AF, would women need probiotics if they did not eat the SAD diet,
would we be able to restore gut health permanently if we gave up
product-driven "eduation" about nutrition and focused on real healing of the
gut, would we be able to prevent another generation of adults who needed
probiotics if children were all bf, etc, etc?
I get very uspet when we dismiss the realities about out poor health as a
population and its effects on our children b/c there is a corportation with
no integrity poised to make money on the outcomes of these studies. IMO, we
need to use this information to make drastic changes in nutritional
education, not only look for ways to discredit them. Closing our eyes to what
we do not want to see doesn't solve the problem of unscrupulous companies
taking advantage of people.
I sometimes wonder if those of us who were AF ourselves, have given too
little consideration to our need to heal our own bodies of the damage we have
experienced, b/c in some ways it is too much of a Pandora's Box, even for us.
