Australia is real! It's always been a theoretical and vague "other side of
the world" for me, but I just got back from part of a week at the Australian
Lactation Consultants' Association conference... and it's *real*. Sydney
really does have that opera house (I saw it from the air). Perth has
kangaroos on its golf course the way we have deer on ours (I stood among
them). And all those Aussie names on lactnet? There are *faces* that go
with them, attached to really wonderful people!
Even the trips over and back were a pleasure. I'd been dreading all those
hours in the air, but really, they were fun, and jet lag, for some bizarre
reason, has been virtually non-existent each way despite the 12 hour time
change.
Don't *think* about going to the ILCA conference in Sydney next year. Just
*do* it, even if you have to leave the family at home. If you get a quarter
as much pleasure from the trip as I did, it'll be one of the best
experiences of your life. I can't wait to go back!
