Yesterday one of the Artificial baby milk companies presented an "inservice"
( actually a video showing and food) on infant massage for the staff. I went
in afterwards with an intern that was shadowing me to show her how the ABM
companies work the staff. The company had a "Supplemental Pack for Bfing
Moms". It had a bottle with 2 cans of the new stuff. I got one and will be
sending it to Marsha Walker. It had info on it about how a bfing mother can
supplement and also how to wean to formula.
We haven't really focused on these ABM companies sales shows yet -- I'm too
busy with patient care and program development. I did post a note beside the
last flier they gave out with info on the Code and highlighted the violation.
One of the neonatologist said she was offended by the note and highlighted
areas because she felt the inservice had valuable information. I didn't tell
her I was offended by her offense-I just blew it off.
So watch out for the infant massage inservice coming soon to a hospital near
you. And what does infant massage have to do with being a nurse on
postpartum?
