The hospital where I work has outpatient services for
moms who need to see an LC. It is a $50 fee; visits
are usually about an hour, but will run longer if need
be (and often do!). Our staff always gives Mom a form
to submit for insurance reimbursement, in the event
the visit is covered.
In the past month, got a phone call from a mom w/
Cigna, delighted that she had gotten a reimbursement
check for the full fee. Had 2 other moms w/ Aetna;
one phoned before her visit and was told Aetna fully
reimburses for LC visits, the other was told Aetna
would direct-bill for the consultation (different
coverage?). Both moms were told that Aetna considers
LC services "diagnostic care", and were both surprised
and happy.
Hearing these stories really made my day and raised my
hopes that things are beginning to change. My
frustration over the insurance industry often gets to
me; thinking about these moms helps me stay positive.
