I think it is just common sense that ANY diet that is skewed towards any one
food group or another could cause changes in taste and amount of breastmilk,
that is why we have multiple food groups available to us :-) besides
chocolate :-) I would venture to say in this case that it was the ketones
that caused a taste change, or the abrupt drop in supply made the milk taste
saltier. Years ago I worked closely with a brittle diabetic who had lots
of problems with her first baby. She ended up needing lots less insulin and
lots more carbs while breastfeeding to keep ketones out of her urine. Since
the baby was newborn we didn't hear any comments about taste of breastmilk
