MediCal mandates that all insurance plans PROVIDE prenatal breastfeeding
education, postnatal breastfeeding support, breastpumps for MEDICAL
indications, pasteurized donor milk for medical indications. Unfortunately
there are no penalties, no enforcement and most of the Healthplans dump it
all on the hospitals to provide (with no additional payment for doing it).
For a review of good healthplans breastfeeding programs get a copy of the
monograph from the Office of Women's Health (same people that put out the
"Blueprint....." document.
