I am hoping that someone can give me some guidance. Can anyone suggest
where I can find information about streaks of blood in breastfed infants
stools. The mothers of two breastfed babies in the past month called me
with similar situations. Both had been breastfed and given cow's milk
formula (vs soy) with in the first two weeks of life. Both mothers like and
drink milk themselves and the mothers noticed that the babies had streaks
of blood in their stools ("not a lot of blood"). Respective Pediatricians
told the mothers to stop breastfeeding and give alumentium. Neither one
choose to do that, with no guidance from me, but when they call me I can
only offer them information about a personal experience, which I don't feel
is always the appropriate thing to do. My 2 y/o grandaughter, for the first
year of her life did the exact same thing (with the exception of intake of
Formula) every time her mother ingested any milk of milk product. I only
had one vague reference via email and her pediatrician agreed to follow her
appropriately with labs and weekly phone calls and or office visits, until
things settled down.
I have checked out the AAP site and am at a loss where else I can look.
Would appreciate any ideas and or thoughts.
Thank you in advance.
