Recent research shows that women can lose up to 2 lbs a week without a
rise in the organochlorine pesticide levels of their milk.
Lovelady CA, Whitehead RA, McCrory MA, Nommsen-Rivers LA, Mabury S,
Dewey KG. Weight change during lactation does not alter the
concentrations of chlorinated organic contaminants in breast milk of
women with low exposure. J Hum Lact. 1999 Dec;15(4):307-15.
The same researchers in other studies found that losing this amount of
weight had no effect on milk supply or infant growth.
