Winnie,
In your list of reasons for a pacifier you forgot one important one (that my
4th needed): wanting to suck, but not wanting any food with it.
My youngest was very upset one night (when he was a newborn) we wanted to
suck but would pull away angry when my milk let down. I would get him calm,
he would root, then pull away whenever the milk started to flow, after a few
tries I realized he wanted to just suck and not eat. I ran for my demo
pacifier, washed it and gave it to him. But alas, he was just like the
others - hated having something artificial in his mouth, so we went to sleep
with him sucking on my finger.
